Eric Bogosian

Award-Winning Playwright, Actor, & Novelist

Eric Bogosian is an actor, playwright, monologist and novelist renowned for employing his dark wit in the fearless examination the darker side of human nature. He has been lauded by Entertainment Weekly for his "merciless satirical vision (that) takes you deep into the dark heart of the American dream." He currently stars in Law and Order: Criminal Intent on NBC as Captain Danny Ross. Among the numerous films and television programs he has appeared in Robert Altman’s The Caine Mutiny Court Martial, Atom Egoyan’s Ararat, Under Siege II and Wonderland.

Perhaps Bogosian's best known play is the Pulitzer Prize nominated Talk Radio for which he served as both playwright and actor, starring in both the play and the film adaptation. Talk Radio made its Broadway debut starring Leiv Schreiber 20 years after its original debut. Centered on an abrasive radio host, the play is an examination of what happens to someone whose view of himself is reflected and distorted back to him by others, in this case the sad and lonely individuals who call into his radio show.

In addition to Talk Radio, he is the author of the novels Perforated Heart, Wasted Beauty and Mall; the novella Notes From the Underground, the plays Suburbia and Griller, and the Obie Award-winning solo performances Drinking in America, Pounding Nails in the Floor with My Forehead and Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll. The New York Times hailed Bogosian's fiction as "caustic, fast-paced...(with) the same garrulous intensity he brings to plays and monologues, Bogosian sets in motion a suburban nightmare."

He is a three-time Obie award winner, a recipient of the Berlin Film Festival Silver Bear Award and a Drama Desk Award and recipient of two NEA fellowships. He lives in New York City with his wife, director Jo Bonney.
