Mark R. Hasara

“From fast asleep to full up war in thirty minutes.”

For twenty-four years Lt Col Mark Hasara operated one of the Air Force's oldest airplanes, the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker. His career started during the Reagan administration, carrying out Strategic Air Command's nuclear deterrent mission. Moving to Okinawa, Japan, in August 1990, he flew missions throughout the Pacific Rim and Southeast Asia. His first combat missions were in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. As a Duty Officer in the Tanker Airlift Control Center or TACC, he planned and ran five hundred airlift and air refueling missions a month. Leaving the TACC, Lt Col Hasara was chosen as an Initial Cadre member for the KC-135 Combat Employment School, now the 509th Weapons Squadron, the Air Force's graduate-level education on all aspects of air refueling operations. After 9/11, Lt Col Hasara deployed to Incirlik Air Base Turkey for Operation Northern Watch, Diego Garcia supporting B-52 missions over Afghanistan, and three deployments to the Prince Sultan Air Base Combined Air Operations Center in Saudi Arabia as the Chief of the Air Refueling Control Team for Operation Anaconda, Operation Southern Focus, and the Shock and Awe campaign over Iraq. He spent three years as an instructor and Curriculum Director at National Defense University's Joint and Combined Warfighter School, educating US and international officers in national strategy, campaign planning and execution, and military affairs. His last assignment in the Air Force's Operational Test and Evaluation Center Headquarters at Kirtland AFB, he developed test plans for modern weapons and air refueling modernization programs.

Upon retirement from the Air Force, Mark spent seven years at Rockwell Collins in engineering, designing and developing military fixed and rotary wing cockpits, and as a sales representative for product aftermarket services. Mark became a full-time author, speaker, and defense industry consultant in June of 2014.
