Ranya Idliby

Co-Author of THE FAITH CLUB: A Muslim, A Christian, A Jew—Three Women Search for Understanding

In the wake of 9/11, Ranya Idliby, a Palestinian-born American Muslim, called on Suzanne Oliver, an ex-Catholic turned Episcopalian, and Priscilla Warner, a Reform Jew, to create a children’s book that would highlight the similarities their three religions share. When sparks flew shortly after their first meeting, the women quickly realized they would have to own up to prejudices and stereotypes and ask themselves some very tough questions. And, with that, The Faith Club was born. During regular sessions over tea and hot chocolate, Idliby, Oliver, and Warner met in their homes to tackle sensitive issues and explore their religious beliefs. The Faith Club charts the authors’ journey as they worked to transcend religious barriers, to overcome stereotypes and misunderstandings, and to deepen their own religious commitments and beliefs. An interfaith journey of the most profound kind, a conversation with the authors offers rare insight into others’ faith. The Faith Club demonstrates how anyone can benefit from a context to deepen and explore their religious faith.

Idliby appears with her co-authors Warner and Oliver, or alone.
