Susie Essman: Simon & Schuster Speakers Bureau

Susie Essman

Acclaimed Stand-Up Comedian, Actress, Writer and Producer

Susie Essman has played the sassy Susie Greene for all eight seasons of the critically acclaimed HBO comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm. Her hilarious bouts of withering sarcasm and uninhibited insults have become her character’s trademark, and her streetwise vernacular is perfectly suited for her life in Manhattan, where she has been a veteran of the world of stand-up comedy for 25 years.

At the podium, Essman shares with audiences the story of her tough road to comedy stardom, both as a woman breaking barriers in a male dominated industry; and having that same career pull her out of a debilitating and suicidal depression.

As a working mother and celebrity, Essman connects with audiences who share very similar everyday issues including the trials of parenting teenagers, the onset of menopause, dealing with elderly parents, and finding love later in life that came with a built-in family of five. Essman of course takes audiences behind the scenes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, revealing hilarious stories about Larry David, her onscreen husband Jeff Garlin and what it’s like to play the potty-mouthed Susie Greene fans love. Essman’s comedic wit and razor sharp tongue will have audiences roaring in the aisles and her very raw accounts will connect with them in ways they never thought possible.

Essman has appeared in her own half-hour HBO comedy special, made numerous appearances on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The View, and Crank Yankers, to name just a few of her many television credits. She has also acted in numerous films, most recently costarring with John Travolta as the voice of Mittens the Cat in the Disney animated movie Bolt.

Now Essman adds published author to her list of accomplishments with her book What Would Susie Say – Bullshit Wisdom About Love, Life and Comedy which was published by Simon & Schuster in 2009.

Essman divides her time between New York City and upstate New York, where she lives with her husband, four stepchildren, and two dogs.
