TIlar J. Mazzeo is the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and San Francisco Chronicle bestselling author of The Widow Clicquot, The Hotel on Place Vendome, and other works of women’s biography, business history, and cultural biography and World War Two history, including Irena’s Children, The Secret of Chanel No. 5, and the forthcoming biography of Eliza Hamilton. She is the author of the popular wine guide series The Back Lane Wineries of Napa, The Back Lane Wineries of Sonoma, and, forthcoming with Nish Gera, The Back Lane Wineries of New York. She has written for venues ranging from Food & Wine magazine to The Wall Street Journal. One of the preeminent teachers of nonfiction writing nationally, she has taught creative writing seminars at major cultural institutions such as the Smithsonian, and her video courses with the Teaching Company have been featured as in-flight content on Virgin America airlines and are widely distributed. She has been a past recipient of the prestigious writer-in-residence positions at institutions such as the George Washington University (Jenny McKeon Moore), the University of Cambridge, and the Dora Maar House. The Clara C. Piper Associate Professor of English at Colby College, she divides her time among Maine, New York City, and Saanichton, British Columbia, where she lives with her husband and is the proprietor Parsell Vineyards.
