Nina Tassler Used Her Outsider's Insight To Ascend At CBS

Nina Tassler didn't break the glass ceiling in the entertainment business, she shattered it. Tassler rose from aspiring actress to chairwoman of CBS Entertainment. Over the course of her career she shepherded shows ranging from "How I Met Your Mother" and "The Good Wife" to ratings nirvana. And since she retired in Dec. 2015 she edited a book of essays, "What I Told My Daughter: Lessons From Leaders On Raising the Next Generation of Empowered Women."

Tassler achieved her success by following a basic axiom: Do what you love. In fact, a career in show business almost seemed her destiny. Her father was an engineer at CBS who built the family's TV from a kit. "He left the back off the television so we could watch the diode illuminate as it warmed up," Tassler told IBD.

Born in Manhattan, she grew up in upstate New York, and as she grew older, watching a lot of television (mostly CBS, she claims), "I was drawn to performing and to storytelling."
