It feels as if everyone is waiting with bated breath for former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony during tomorrow’s Senate Intelligence Committee Hearing.

According to his opening statement to the Senate Intelligence Committee published ahead of tomorrow’s hearing, Comey plans to testify that President Trump repeatedly pressured him to drop the investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

National security expert Juliette Kayyem joined Boston Public Radio to discuss what she expects to happen during tomorrow’s hearing.

“Tomorrow is going to be more dramatic ... I think Comey will testify to his impressions of some of those meetings, his own personal reflections ... It's good watching, it's a good day to get on your elliptical and just power for a couple hours,” Kayyem said.

Kayyem developed her own hypothesis into what President Trump thought he was doing in pressuring Comey this way.

“My theory of the case is Trump was clearly forum shopping for someone to pay attention to him to stop this investigation which is bringing down his White House," Kayyem said. "Remember when he fired Comey? I said on this show, 'This is the beginning of the end.' He was forum shopping to get someone ... to stop an investigation showing first his lack of knowledge of how government works, not just the law ... so first, he was forum shopping, and second, he was bad at it."

And as for Trump’s new pick for FBI Director, Christopher Wray, Kayyem had this to say:

“I don't trust anyone that Trump is willing to give that job too. But based on his resume, he's a credible choice. Any person that Trump wants as FBI Director makes me nervous,” Kayyem said.
